Situated to the north of the South Island, Nelson is typical of what New Zealand has to offer, located between vineyards, beaches and mountains, it’s a starting point for visits into the national parks which are protected areas for flora and fauna. Nelson is also the gateway to exploring locations used for The Lord of the Rings.
Nelson is the oldest town on the South Island and the second oldest in New Zealand. The town was founded in 1841 and is home to around 50 000 people. Each year Nelson plays host to many popular events, such as the Nelson Arts Festival for both tourists and locals.
